Dübendorf, Zürich, 24 March, 2025 – On 21 March, 2025, the Tertianum Group acquired 100% of the share capital of the Geras care hotel in Sutz-Lattrigen/BE. This takeover sees Tertianum consolidate its presence in the Seeland region of Switzerland and continue on its growth trajectory.
With roughly 75 employees and a prime location directly on Lake Biel, Geras care hotel opened in Sutz-Lattrigen/BE in 2019. The facility comprises 60 care home beds (single rooms with en-suite bathrooms) in four residential units and 13 care apartments with in-house, homecare services, as well as a restaurant that is open to the public. The care hotel is aimed at people of OASI retirement age and specialises in long-term palliative care and dementia. It has been awarded the “Quality in Palliative Care” label by the Swiss ‘qualitépalliative’ association.
Following the purchase of 30% of the share capital in November 2021, the Tertianum Group acquired the remaining 70% on 21 March, 2025. To ensure an orderly and smooth transition, the care hotel will continue to operate under its own brand and existing infrastructure, while the full operational and system integration into the Tertianum Group is set to take place no earlier than 2027. All employees will be kept on, while Pascale Lavina, owner and current managing director of Geras care hotel, will hand over management of the hotel to the current head of hotel operations, Andrea Rivera, in April 2025.
Geras care hotel owner and managing director Lavina explains "I am delighted that we have found a strong succession solution under the umbrella of the Tertianum Group to lead Geras care hotel into a successful future".
For his part, CEO of the Tertianum Group, Luca Stäger, highlights "With its philosophy of ‘residential living with services in a hotel-like atmosphere’, Geras care hotel is a perfect fit for Tertianum. We look forward to working together in the future".
This takeover allows Tertianum to strengthen its market presence in Switzerland’s Seeland region and expand its position as the largest private senior care provider with 100 facilities throughout Switzerland. The acquisition is also in line with Tertianum's strategy to pursue consistent growth in its core business.
